Does What You Watch Match Your Walk?

Look Up Radio | #1 Christian Contemporary and Gospel Radio Station | Does What You Watch Match Your Walk?

Oh, what time it is?  What, it’s 9:00… Desperate Housewives here I come!

That was my evening, like clock work every Sunday night.  I’m sure as you’re reading this article, you can think of some show or game that you just have to watch.  It’s like the highlight of your evening.  Like a crack addict, you line-up all your shows for the evening to get your fix.  You say to yourself, “I deserve a break from the humdrum of life.”  Well, there you are, in your favorite chair with remote poised in your hands…and it begins.  Ah, that first scene like the rush of sugar from your favorite desert, draws you in and the “fix” has been achieved.   Illicit affairs, barely clothed actors in steamy intimate scenes, profanity sprinkled throughout like pepper for added taste and don’t forget the perfect who shot J.R. ending.  Show is over and you’re feeling good about yourself…I’m sure.  It’s just a show…right?  That’s what I used to think to until something dramatic took place to change my outlook about what I was watching.

While I was thinking about a scene from one of my favorite shows one day, a thought came to me in the form of a question.  This is the dialogue that took place based upon the question was posed:

Voice: What about the Ten Commandments?

Me: What about them?

Voice: What do you think of them?

Me: They’re good!

Voice: Do you believe in the goodness of them?

Me: Yes.

Voice: Then why are you entertained by shows that break my laws.  You are my child!

Me: (Speechless)

It was like getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar. There was no denying it; I was caught. With sincere apologies to my Heavenly Father, I made the choice to leave those shows alone and I haven’t looked back.  Having a heart that is in tune with His is what compels me now.

“Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.”   Psalms 19:14 KJV

How does what you’re watching speak of the relationship you have with Christ?  Does what you watch match your walk?
