Maya Angelou Dies at 86

WINSTON-SALEM, NC, May 28th, 2014 – Look Up Radio has learned that author, poet, civil rights activist Maya Angelou has died Tuesday night at the age of 86 in Winston-Salem, NC.  It was also reported last week that Angelou suddenly became ill with an “unknown sickness” which may have claimed the world’s most famous poet.

According to TMZ, Maya was supposed to be honored Friday in Houston where she was supposed to receive the Beacon of Life Award.  Angelou has received over 30 honorary degrees from universities world wide, she has published 7 autobiographies, is author of the controversial “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, and has received countless awards and honors including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009.

Angelou was surrounded by family when she passed on Tuesday night.

The world mourns the loss of one of the most famous poets of our generation.  Rest In Peace, Maya Angelou, April 4th, 1928 – May 28th, 2014.
