Da T.R.U.T.H. In Black & White

Written by Ayanna Webb

Every time I find myself at Warmdaddy’s in Philadelphia, they always hold events that bring a wall-to-wall crowd with lively live music, and this event was no exception. This venue has seen every genre from Hip Hop, to R&B, to jazz, and as it was tonight, Gospel. One of the featured artists of the night was Daarinah, who presented the audience with a mixture of song and rap, reminding everyone that God is, indeed, “The Rainbow after the storm”. We also got a splash of poetry. Another featured artist was Dozzy Daniel, who started us out with a mellow cover of “What A Friend We Have in Jesus”, then spun into a lightly speedier freestyle, backed by vocalists, a guitarist, drummer, percussionist, and keyboardist, as was Daarinah. Another exciting act was Keisha, who electrified the room with her personality and gift. The main act of the night, Da Truth, brought the room to life with his high energy along with his tight band, which had an added saxophonist, trumpeter, and bassist. He tells his story of sin and deliverance, assuring the crowd that he “ain’t going back, back, back to the streets”. A perfect way to escalade and conclude a great night of Gospel!
