The latest project from urban contemporary artist Kierra “Kiki” Sheard, offers listeners 12 tracks of solidified LIVE praise and worship from top to bottom. Every song fits together like pieces in a puzzle- with an amazing band, solid background vocals and well-blended harmonies. War, a bonafide battle chant for the Lord, is a gospel-esque Lady Gaga/Prince pop tune that echoes the lyrics: “It’s time to stand up/the mind is a battlefield/ but there’s guaranteed Victory/we got to get it right/days are shorter/time is running out”. This song reminds us to stand on the word of God and never back down. Mighty, the lead single off the album; is another blazing track with a pop vibe that is sure to make people dance, in and
out of the four walls of the church.

While the first portion of the CD is an excellent warm up for the gifted Sheard, the latter part of the CD include beautiful worship tunes that showcases Sheard’s powerful voice and vocal range. Desire opens with Sheard leading in her beautiful tone “I am yours/you are mine/take my heart and my mind/open the eyes of my heart reveal yours Lord.”

The title track Free, expresses Sheard’s heart for Jesus Christ as she displays a very deep and personal song that mirrors a struggle that all believers have experienced being bound by sin, yet have been set free by the power of Jesus’ love.

Indescribable, a remake by the king of Christian music Chris Tomlin, is the high point of the CD where Sheard increases in passion and vocal strength and captures the beauty of God. This version truly does Tomlin’s original justice, layered with a melodious guitar harmony, christened with the soft tones of BRL
choir.

The last portion of the CD showcases JDS production skills on the songs “People” featuring Chicago-based rap duo Sons of the Most High and “Victory” featuring gospel singer James Fortune; which is a party song with riveting piano chops, mixed with an urban pop feel.

This is Sheard’s first LIVE project and she did not disappoint, with a mature sound, exceptional production from younger brother J. Drew Sheard (JDS), and help from her Detroit-based choir, Bold Right Life. Kierra surely delivers anthems to be remembered by adoring fans and first-time cd buyers alike.
